Question:
I've heard after the surgery you can't drink coffee anymore? Any responses to that!

Hey there! I drink coffee all morning long and tea after that!

I never drank coffee before my surgery. I have now acquired a taste for it because of trying to get fluids in. It might be because of the acid content in coffee but it is not a problem in my case.

Nothing like a decafe skim latte to help get your protein in! The smell of regular coffee is unpleasant to me now - I previously drank coffee daily. Now I like decafe, which is probably better for me.

A weight loss counselor told me caffeine stimulates the appetite and should be avoided during any weight loss program. I haven't heard of any restriction post-op.

I have only had decaf for the past 7 years. Does that qualify as coffee? At any rate, coffee is not a problem after surgery. I can tell you that since my operation 3 months ago I have not had much coffee at all; I used to have one or two cups in the morning before but now I go days and weeks on end without drinking a cup of brew. I can't explain it but since the opeation I just haven't had a taste for the drink. But when I do feel like a cup of coffee, I drink it guilt free.

Before surgery I drank an average of 8 large cups of coffe a day. Since the surgery, I have cut back to 2 average cups in the morning. The one thing my doctor said was that if I insisted on having coffee to drink it early in the day and make sure I got plenty of water because coffee is a dehyratic (hope I spelled it right).

Its my understanding that the biggest problem with drinking anything with caffeine in it is that caffeine depletes out calcium level twice as fast as before surgery. Whenever I have caffeine, I try my best to take extra calcium that day. Best Wishes!

I am 5 wekks post-op and I still cannot drink coffee like I used to. At 3 weeks post-op I could tolerate McDonald's coffee. I still can't seem to drink my own perked coffee-too oily and strong. I was told by a friend who is 6 months post-op that she could not drink coffee for about 3 months.
