Question:
ANYONE USE MUSIC DURING SURGERY?
Has anyone used music during surgery to enhance healing? Any anxiolytic music to reduce anxiety before, during or after surgery? Please let us know how it worked (did it help?), what you used and where you found it! Thanks. — Toni B. (posted on January 17, 2000)

What is "anxiolytic music to reduce anxiety before during
or after surgery"?

Hi... I made relaxation tapes while I was pre op... pan flutes, guitars and
even waves crashing against the mountains... but I was so at PEACE with
myself and my decision that I did not need them.. and this was my first,
and hopefully last, surgery in my 34 years... I am 4 1/2 months out and I
have had no post op problems ie., vomiting... pain... etc.. I don't weigh
myself really but I have come from a lose size 24 to a very nice fitting
16!!! and I am working my way to 12... and I'll get there too-Yippeee!! I
suggest the only thing you take in the OR is a positive attitude and you
will be fine :-) Take Good Care of You...

As a clinical hypnotherapist and post hysterectomy - I can vouch for going
in with a postive attitude. I made relaxation tapes to listen to before
and after surgery. (didn't use it during surgery, didn't want surgeon to
get "too" relaxed!)I also used a subliminal tape for pain
management after surgery - had little pain and recovered rapidly. I am
still doing research on WLS and am "leaning" toward BPD/DS, if
and when I decide to have this surgery I will be busy composing tapes for
relaxation and recovery.

I think I'll make a "post-op" tape to help with pain, but in
surgery I think that if they play music it should be music that helps the
surgeon focus!
