Question:
Pre & Post OP Support Group
Can someone give me a clue about the various programs -- like who do you meet with pre op (like bariatriac staff, other patients pre-op, etc.) HOW MANY TIMES and over what period of time? Who did you meet with post op -- how long do you anticipate attending meetings/ how often? The program I'm considering does not offer peer support -- just one on one with their bariatric team. A few e-mails I've received indicate that this not an ideal situation. I want to know what to look for in the ideal situation. Thanks! — Toni B. (posted on November 25, 1999)

My surgeon has patient counselors on staff who are post-op RnY patients.
They can answer your questions from a "personal" perspective
which is a good addition to the doctor's medical perspective. There are
also support groups which meet once a month for pre-op and post-op patients
to get together. I think this peer support is a valuable part of his
treatment program.
