Question:
I make a great chicken soup
Having surgery soon! I make a great chicken soup. Should I make this and put threw blender and freeze? Will I be able to eat homemade chicken soup? It does have a pinch of saffron. Hannah — hannah R. (posted on September 17, 1999)

Great idea Hannah! I have been doing up chicken in the blender and
freezing it in ice cube trays. Then I pop the frozen cubes out and put
them in a zip-lock freezer bag. It should work with your soup too, and
that way it comes out in single servings (post-op size). I've also done
black beans, and a few other items.

Hhi, Hannah---You will probably be able to eat your soup postopIF it has no
sugar, is low fat, and is low in "gassy" veggies (like broccoli
and cabbage). You may want to run the recipe by your dr. or nutritionist
first, though. GOod luck--

Hannah..
chicken soup....ANY kind of soup is a GREAT choice post op..and dont worry
about the saffron...the more flavor, the more it's gonna satisfy you
..k?..I blended and ate soup as soon as I was allowed pureed..it goes down
easy and is really good for you!! also,,..becuase it has a lot of
liquid..it slips through your outlet pretty fast..don't be concerned that
you can eat more soup than you can any other food....it's normal..I could
.even very early on..eat 1/2 cup of soup..or more..when i was just eating a
couple ounces of other stuff...i still do a LOT of soup....could you e mail
me the [email protected]

Wow,someone who loves chicken soup like me. I live off of homemade
vegetable chicken soup. I am 8months post-op.I make fresh about every two
weeks.I freeze it in two cup containers.I know the first 3wks. after
surgery are CLEAR liquids, you could just use the broth. Good luck!I have
lost 80lps.and feel great.

Hannah ... Sounds good! Mail me some!
It was my experience that soup worked really well for me. It not only gave
me what I needed, but tasted like real food, it was warm and tasted good.
I remember wanting something that tasted "homey" like chicken
soup. Freeze it in 1 cup servings, that would have been about 3 meals for
me when I first had the surgery. Remember that all Doctor's seem to have
different ideas of diets, so you may want to check with your surgeon first.
Have a great day.
