Question:
Having surgery soon. Probably silly question but what should I wear home.
If I wear pants, that might rub incision, haven't worn a dress in years! Maybe I should just come home in night gown and a robe. Do you think this should be my least concern? Probably! — [Anonymous] (posted on September 14, 1999)

I had surgery two weeks ago today. Wear something lose fitting and wear
slip on shoes home. You will need to walk every hour on the way home to
prevent blood clots. Good luck.

When I went home, I couldn't care less about how I looked. I packed so
much stuff for the hospital that i didn't use. I wore my p'j's home and
basically lived in them for a month!!! Also you will have a bandage or
tape on your belly. my p'j's had an elastic and they didnt bother me too
much. Good luck! you will do just fine! no worries!

:) Yes, this should probably be one of your least concerns but ... It was
on my priority list too ::: grin ::: I took a soft older pair of stretch
pants that were a little loose, and loose undies and a t-shirt that was too
big ... and went the comfy route! Best wishes on your surgery and
recovery! and the trip home :)

By the time you get done exposing yourself to the world for four days in
the hospital modesty will have flown the coop. Believe me, you will be so
happy to be going home, you won't care what you look like. I wore a pair of
slacks with a loose waistband. Not that much of the incision line is
exposed to the waistband area, most of it is above the waist. You will
probably have a "shrink-wrap" dressing that will cover the entire
incision area and hold it tight anyway. I was more worried about my
mother's air bag going off and hitting me in the chest on the way home from
the hospital (she drives a little wild for me). I sat with a pillow on top
of my stomach all the way home.

I think that you should consider a lounger type of dress. It is similar to
a robe, but looks like a dress. You can usually find them in a
"Roaman's" or "Layne Bryant" catalog. They usually
aren't very expensive.

I wore pants home,my incision was higher than my waist band. But wearing
your gown home seems like a good idea if your comfortable. Good luck you
will be happy.I am 7months post op.

Hi, I wore one of those plus size sleeping type tshirts home and no undies
or bra as they were in the right place to rub the staples. You might try a
pair of sweats and a loose t shirt with sweats pulled down below the belly
button. And don't forget the SLIP ON slippers. You won't feel like
bending over to put shoes on! HE HEE. Personally my sleeping shirt from
KMART was the best idea I think. I had a 2 1/2 hour drive home. Take a
pillow to hold on your tummy too as the little bumps in the road seem
giant!
Good Luck. Cheri

I wore really lightweight, biggest I had, legging type things. Cotton
pants? Very light fabric, light elastic, so it didn't crowd me. And the
biggest blouse I had. You're kind of swollen when you leave the hospital.

When I went home from the hospital I wore loose elastic banded pants. I
pulled them down a little in the front so that they were below my staple
line (belly button). I also wore a long shirt. You may also want to wear
a loose bra or none at all. Hope this helps.

I wore my largest pair of loose fitting, comfortable elastic waist pants
and a large, long blouse with no bra. I kind of tucked part of my blouse
into my pants so my waistband wasnt touching my incision. I also did the Al
Bundy thing with my hands in my pants to keep the waist of any pants I had
on from touching my incision for about 3 weeks.

There are no silly questions .... Trust me! I wore a pair of sweats and a
large sweatshirt .... you will be bandaged enough so the waistband will not
bother you, just make sure they are loose fitting. pretty soon EVERYTHING
will be loose fitting! Good luck! and congrats !

I wore jeans and long shirt when I went to the hospital to have my surgery.
After surgery I had a binder on so when I went home I just didn't button up
my jeans. My shirt covered up the front of me so there was no problem. The
binder protected my incision from any rubbing from my clothes. I wouldn't
wear anything tight, just comfortable.

No question is silly! I bought two muu-muu type house-dresses for after
surgery, and I wore one home. I was covered, yet still comfortable! I
did find that slacks, panties, etc., rubbed my incision uncomfortably for
the first few days home, so I stayed in the house dresses and nightgowns.
GOod luck!

Find something comfortable and BIG. You will be bigger around because of
the swelling and fluid gain, but this all goes away soon. Buy a big pair
of sweats or something like that. You'll probably have a binder, so your
incision is pretty much protected.
