Question:
Has anyone had surgery with Dr. Kirkpatric at Washington Hospital Center?
After having settled on and fixed a date with Dr. Michael Salem, United Health Care Plan decided that they would only cover a part of the procedure. I challenged them to find an in-network specialist to be covered by at the 90% level, and they (after weeks) came up with the cheif surgeon at WHC, Dr. Kirkpatrick. However, I am not sure he does any procedures in obesity surgery regularly. Has anyone had or heard of any experiences with him? — Peter W. (posted on July 22, 1999)

I would recommend that you call Dr. Joseph Afram in Washington, DC at
202/659-0240 if you're still considering obesity surgery and have concerns
about Dr. Kirkpatrick. Dr. Afram has been performing bariatric surgery for
over 15 years, belongs to the American Society For Bariatric Surgeons and
definitely has the experience. Good luck in your search!

My husband and I went to see Dr Kirkpatrick on monday. He is chief of
surgery at Washington Hospital in DC. He has done this type of surgery for
20 years, 60 or so of this surgery a year, around 1 a week. We know a
friend that has had the surgery 2 years ago and has lost 170 lbs. She very
highly recomnded him. She was right, he is a great dr.
