Question:
I am 3 weeks after my vbg and find myself hungry alot is that normal?
I had my vbg 3 12 weeks ago and find myself hungry 3 to 4 hours after my meals is that normal? has anyone else experienced this? I thought the surgery was to help prevent hunger. — christie O. (posted on June 10, 1999)

I had VBG 11 months ago. If you are eating 3-5 times a day, getting hungry
after 3-4 hours would be normal. Being only 3 weeks out, your body is
adjusting to the smaller meals. This will smooth itself out the farther
post-op you are. If you are looking for support you think about joinig the
VBG on-line support group. There is allot of info out there if you know
where to go.

The surgery does help to prevent hunger, but on the other
hand you are eating very small amounts. 3-4 hours is a long
time to go between those meals. You should be eating that
often. When you feel hungry, grab a snack.

How do you ever manage to get your fluids in if you eat more than three
meals a day? I am 5 weeks postop and cannot even manage to get enough
fluid. I know this is slowing down my weight loss. If you drink a lot of
water starting about 2 hours after you have eaten, you will probably not
get hungry for 5 hours.

I have not had the surgery but I am hypoglycemic and have had nutritional
counseling. I have been told that you should eat very little snacks
several times a day. Maybe this pertains to after surgery as well.

YES! We all experienced that! I was constantly hungry the first month or
so....I was on purees, and it was more of a mind thing, with wanting more
foods I couldn't have. Once I went back to a normal diet, this went away!
Most doctors insist it is a mental thing....hard to believe when your
stomach is physically rumbling like crazy, but I guess it is still
mental....wierd.
Don't worry, you're normal, and it will pass!
