Question:
Pilot/Arbys Indiana employees get approved?
My daughter works for Pilot/arbys, and she has Cigna insurance that has intercorp handle there insurance. They have an iron clad exclusion for any type of wls. She called the Indiana insurance commison about the law and theirs states they offer it but it doesnt have to be acepted but the insurance co. so they were of no help. She thought of hireing Walter Lindstrom, but would the $800.00 be a waste of her money? (rember where she works)She doesnt have money to wast if its a wast of time trying. She has several co morbids, BMI 60, so I think she qualifies... I am 18 months post op, I wish she was under my insurance. She called for privet insurance United Health care (golden Rule) in Indiana. Its listed as an exclusion, but they couldnt tell her if the DX and Cpt codes with MO would be covered. Any ideas? Thankyou. Rosemary — wizz40 (posted on October 14, 2004)

Rosemary,
First let me say that I think its a CRIME that any insurance would deny a
person with a BMI that high as well as having co morbids. Ok now that that
has been said.
I live in Virginia where there is a similar law. If you are not a self
insured employer, then your insurance company must "offer" WLS,
but it doesn't mean that your employer has to buy it. Many do however and
I am very fortunate that mine did. Personally I think it only happened
because of some of the "Powers that Be" (MEN) need to have this
surgery done. The first ones to have it done were higher ups! I am
guessing had they not been MO, it wouldn't have flyed! I can't say whether
she should pay for an attorney, but it doesn't sound very promising to me.
My best to her anyway! I hope she lands a job with better insurance.
