Question:
What do your batwings measure?
Hi there. I'm only 10 lbs. until goal (15 lbs. to personal goal), and i am so digusted by the amount of excess skin i have. I mean i knew this was likely, but i've seen other posties that started around my weight (227), and i really feel like i've gotten a raw deal. At 142 lbs., I really would have thought my upper arms would shrink a little, but they actually measure 13 inches around. Yes, i'm glad at what i've achieved, and yes, i'm happy i'm so close to goal. however, i really can't even wear sleevless shirts because of the size of my arms. i'm a medium in tops, and don't fit into most of them because of the size of my biceps. i now know (for sure) that i'm going to need plastic surgery, but i can't help feeling so disappointed that so many areas of my body are really unsightly. What are everyone else's biceps measuring? i want to try to put this into perspective, so if you could help me out, i'd really appreciate it. Thanks. <Open PROXIMAL Rny 7/7/03, 227/142/127> — sweetmana (posted on May 2, 2004)

I'll trade you, mine are 15". I started a savings acct to get them
done. Ins paying for TT, but not arms. I can't wear shirts that fit me
either because of my arms, and would never go sleeveless. Yuck. But
thrilled to be down 122Lbs!! Also 15 to go, hoping to lop off 5 with theTT

I would be happy with 13. Mine are 15.5. I am seeing a plastic surgeon in
3 weeks for a tummy tuck and I was going to ask about the arms. I am
hoping for insurance approval, but not counting on it. Hopefully it won't
be too expensive.

Not sure what mine are but I suspect they are larger than 15.5". I
started at 442 and am 192 now so I have/had lots of hanging skin. I've had
the LBL done already and had 19 lbs of skin removed.

The only part of my arms that really bug me is that when they are
hanging down of I'm bending over and they are hanging is that they look
like turkey necks. The actual batwings really don't bother me too much.
I've had very large arms for many many years, with tons of stretch marks on
then since I was a teenager, and I have always worn sleeveless shirts. I
learned to accept them long ago. I wear sleeveless now. The more I do the
accepting I am becoming of the turkey neck image. It doesn't define who I
am. Instead it shows how far I have come. I do plan to probably get them
done some day but have decided my legs bother me way more than my arms.
Once they are tanned a little they will bug me even less. I was going to
do my arms in August but decided doing them 9 weeks before my wedding just
wasn't the wisest idea, so I will wait till next year. Besides I will be
off more than enough with having 3 PS's, a vacation and honeymoon this
year. Any more and I might not have a job. Even after having my legs done
they will be far from normal or ideal, but they will be a huge improvement.
There is just way too much to be done in one surgery. It would likely
take 3 leg surgeries to get a great end result. I doubt I am willing to
pay for that ideal look. I'll just be happy to have 43 yr old looking
legs. LOL

Mine are also really big 15.5. I would love for them to be cut off but I
hear that insurance does not pay for it so I guess we will have to wait and
see.

Mine biceps are 13 1/2". The plastic surgeon also estimates 10 to 12
pounds of excess skin on my abdomen. I feel worse about my body now than I
did at my highest weight. Can't wait for the plastic surgery in mid-July.

Can I stick my two cents in here? I have the bat wing thing too. It's not
as much of a problem to me as it is to you, but I can understand how you
feel. Let me share this...I had HUGE calves, up until the very end
here> I swear, I lost my last 10 lbs in my calves alone! THe first 12
months I only lost ONE inch off my calves. It was getting so bad that I
was having trouble with pants not fitting because they'd be so tight around
my calves. It seems now that my body has *finally* fiven up a few more
inches off my calves, and they are shrinking. I'm 18 months out, and
they're just shrinking!! No kidding. It's very srange. Maybe, if you
give it a bit more itme, you're arms will come into their own. You never
know! Good luck to you...Lisa C OPen RNY 11/18/02 306 st wt/138 now

Mine measured in at a whopping 19"!!! <heavy sigh>. Words can
not express my frustration, the rest of my body looks pretty darn sharp
even though I stopped losing wieght above my goal. My arms are just plum
horrid, and no insurance coverage, so unless I win the lotto or find me a
sugar daddy these flaps are mine for life....lol.
