Question:
Has anyone had a revision to the RYN? I am 4 years out...
I initially lost 110 lbs (270 lbs to 160 lbs) but have been gaining over the past 6 to 9 months (30 lbs)... Had an upper GI in December and was told the staple line had broken now. I also need to have my gall bladder removed and a (4th) hernia repair! My tummy just does not like to stay together! Anyway, I wondered about the recover time for a revision.. — eswerda (posted on January 7, 2004)

I had a revision to the RNY after 2 years. Lost alot of weight and then
started gaining. I have done good since having my revision. I wish I had
the RNY to begin with.
When you have your revision make sure they surgeon does the transected RNY.
Better success with it.
Good Luck, Tammy

So you were four years out and you busted your staple line?
How does that happen after four years? Were you eating alot? My doctar
did two lines of staples plus he used skin glue which is like welding the
skin together. I thought over time the skin fused with the staples.

My SLD at 5 yrs. I was revised from RNY to RNY, no change, just a repair.
It was more hassle with the paperwork than the actual surgery. I was
already distal, so my wt loss remained the same (100% of excess). You know
the staple line disrupts because of the body returning to normal, right?
Not hauling any extra pounds in guilt or anything, are ya?

Betty,
You'd get some great help over at the Revision group on Yahoo - there are
many who have had various types of revisions, and are willing to help out.
Here's the link:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/DS_Revision/
Their archives are an excellent read, too, by the way.
Blessings,
dina

Revised from VBG to RNY 18 months ago due to SLD. Recovery was just as
quick (open incision both times), back to work at 2 weeks post-op.
