If your family is complete, you might ask your gyn about ablation.

I found that my periods because different postop too. I was told it's a hormonal imbalance (we're flushing tons of trapped hormones from our fat as we lose weight). You couldn't go wrong discussing this with your GYN. Good luck!

I feel your pain!!! I'm 7 months out and it's gotten a LOT better, but for the first 5 months I thought I was going nuts. Things actually improved dramatically when I stopped the pill. The pill made me grumpy and emotional all the time as a post-op. I also bled for weeks at a time. Give it some time, it will get better.

When I read the word ablation I thought it was a typo. I had never heard of this. So I looked it up. I think that sounds great. It is about time the doctors are doing something for women to help with cramps besided filling us up with hormones or telling us it is all in our heads. Thanks for that info Theresa. BTW..I am 9 months post op and this last period was the easist one yet post-op. The first 8 months were real doozies. The hormone problem that causes the period change may also effect your sex drive...just something to keep in mind. Mine drove away months ago. I hope it finds its way home soon. I miss it. Char

I had an ablation done a few years ago. It was out-patient surgery and I was home by noon of the same day. Best thing........NO periods since then. Don't really know if that is typical or not. But I'm not complaining!! lol. Good luck.

I used to have terrible periods and really dreaded having them. But a few months ago I got the Mirena IUD put in and it has been wonderful. Not only do I not have to worry about pregnancy for the next 5 years, but my periods are practically non-existent. Before all I could use was a big pad made for overnight use and now, if I use anything, it is only a pantyliner. I have no more PMS problems, such as mood swings, cramps, none of it. Anyway, it may be something to discuss with your OB/GYN. Good luck.

Mine have gotten longer and many more cramps since surgery. I used to only have it 3 days, tops. Now it is like 6 days.

Prior to my surgery my period had stopped for three years with about one menstrul cycle each of those years. After surgery I had two periods that was two months ago and so far no more. I was told it had probably stopped due to the extra weight I had rapidly put on and that because of the weight loss, it started up again, but now I don't know what's going on. I will be seeing my gyn next month. And BTW, my periods were so much more painful than ever before, I ended up having to take codein, (spell check), to elivate the sever pain that I was experiencing. Hi. I am a GYN nurse. You may not have been ovulating before surgery because of your weight. As you begin to lose, your ovaries begin to function again and the result is often cramps, PMS and heavier periods. You would not be a candidate for ablation unless you were having really heavy bleeding (saturating a pad per hour or more) with very prolonged bleeding. Talk to your GYn about your option next month. Good luck.
