Question:
pain and burning around one lap incision
to give some details, i had my lap rny on monday, nov. 10th. i am doing wonderful no problems, minimal soreness. until tonight. i brought my dog inside and was hanging her leash on the hook by the door and turned my upper body less than 45 degrees to push the back door shut and BAM! instant pain and burning at one of my lap insicion sites. i just said all that so it is known that i wasn't lifting or doing anything i wasn't supposed to. but anyway, it continues to hurt intensely with certain movements and it is sensitive to the touch around the insicion on the skin (not the actual stapled wound). my question is, do they staple down into the muscle when closing these port holes? cause maybe i pulled it underneath the skin. this is what it feels like. also, i know someone recently posted about this but, of my six insicions this one on the right is dimpled, pulled down like a two inch dent. is this a sign that it might actually be stapled to something deeper under there? and that i might have ripped it a bit? very curious and since it is the middle of friday night i will have to wait to call doctor on monday since i don't think this qualifies as an emergency. let me know anything, thanks. — c B. DO CALL YOUR SURGEON NOW. In any cases of unexplained tuff, better safe
than sorry. Given thats its likely the main port, that gets most of the
action and big stuff like the stapler. Mine hurt and was dimpled too. But
call your surgeon even on the weekend thats why they get paid the buig
bucks. Its likely a nurse may call you back sometimes they filter the calls
this way taking all the easy ones.

I had a very similar problem about a week or two post-op. I called my
surgeon and he said that there were deep muscle stitches that could cause
just such a feeling before they dissolved. Sure enough, it went away in
less than a week. However, you should call just in case...good doctors are
never too busy to call you back, even if it is just to set your mind at
ease.
Good luck!
