Question:
I am 4 weeks post-op. I had my surgery at Bariatric Treatment Center.
I am supposed to be eating pureed foods for the next couple of weeks but I have heard of other people eating pretty much anything. Can I eat more that pureed foods and what would happen if I did? I have to believe that my stomach is pretty well healed by now. — Heather M. (posted on November 4, 2003)

Don't do it Heather. I tested the waters a little too and it really hurt.
BTC gives you guidlines for a reason. Don't get me wrong - I ate soft
foods like scrambled eggs and oatmeal but they are soft..and I chewed very
well. Don't eat anything your tummy has to work at - plus its the perfect
time to lose weight it does get harder the more time you are away from
surgery and the more foods that you can eat. Good luck to you!

I also went to BTC. You only have 2 more weeks before you are pretty much
given the all clear by BTC. Follow your surgeons plan. They want you to
go in steps so that you don't risk injuring the stoma while it is still
healing. You may not have any problems if you eat other foods, but then
again, you may be one of the unlucky ones who does have a problem. BTC is
an excellent facility with excellent surgeons and support personnel. You
trusted them to take care of you before so why doubt the plan at this
point.
Good Luck

I also went through BTC and couldn't stand the pureed foods. I moved to
the soft foods at about three weeks but I was VERY CAREFUL. Read my
profile and you'll see what I was eating and when. Take the time to listen
and feel what your body can tell you. You'll know what you can and can't
eat. As we all know everybody is different and heal at different speeds.

I agree...I also went to BTC and they are the greatest. Follow their
instructions, and another thing our stomach is no way near healed, did you
know that after surgery such as ours it takes anywhere from 6-12 months for
our stomachs to completely heal, think about that. That's why we dring the
water and eat the protein, and take our time doing it...Take care and Good
luck, and just give it a little more time eating this way is really not
that bad ...Cinde

I also went to BTC. There is a reason why their program is SO successful.
Years of taking care od bypass patients and learning what works, and what
ensures long term success. You will do yourself a big favor by following
their instructions. good luck !
