Question:
I am feeling weak and faint on some days. What am I doing wrong?
I am preop and for the past two and a half weeks I've been eating close to the way I'll eat after surgery. I get enough protein and I certainly get enough water, and on some days lately I feel so weak, almost faint. I am averaging about 800 calories a day. Please tell me I won't feel this weak after surgery. — Chris L. (posted on October 19, 2003)

Are you taking any supplements?? You might want to get your labs checked
again, and see what you are lacking... I did feel weak after surgery, for a
few months... but it got better. Your body will eventually adjust... but
you need to make sure you are getting all you need, vitamin wise, and it
doesn't sound like you are... get that checked, okay?

Hi, Chris: I think that this lifestyle is too drastic for someone who has
not actually had the surgery. Yes, there will be days when you'll feel
weak, and when you go to stand up, you will probably feel a little faint
sometimes. The good news is that it gets better. It's a big adjustment
for you, but when you eat those tiny meals, you will feel satisfied, and
your body will think that you're doing what you are supposed to. For now,
to prepare for surgery, concentrate on getting in your water and protein
drinks (which I see you're working on). Also, if you're a caffeine
drinker, try to cut that out before surgery so you won't go through
withdrawals. Get your vitamins now, and start taking them so you get in
the habit. These are just my opinions! Good luck!
