Question:
Does anyone know where to find any articles reflecting the

low success rate of maintaining weight loss after a regular diet. Thanks and God Bless all.    — Sharee *. (posted on September 28, 2003)

Check out this book.http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1932205306/qid=1060605302/sr=2-1/ref=sr_2_1/102-7313568-4285763<P> Once your a couple years out we must watch for bad habits creeping back. I put on 10 unwanted pound but lost 6 in a few weeks by getting back to basics and avoiding orreo cookie bars. Grazing, sugary foods and bad habits can cause troubles. I personally found loosing weight after WLS 2 years out is easier than pre op. Barbs book covers a lot of this.

The National Institues of Health Consensus Statement on Obesity has all the info you want from a completely credible source. You can find it online at http://concensus.nih.gov/cons/084/084_statement.htm. Also see the article "Clinical Guidelines on the Identification, Evaluation and Treatment of Overweight and Obesity in Adults" from the National Heart, Blood and Lung Institute at www.nhbli.nih.gov/guidleines/obeisty. The American Society of Bariatric Surgeons website (www.asbs.org/html/rationale) might also be helpful.

In addition to the recommendations already given, run a search on MSNBC.com They have alot of info and statistics you can provide to your insuarnce compnay. They list where the stas came from. By the way, the NIH study shows that only 2% of Americans can keep the weight off for 5 years if they lost it through a regular diet (not surgery).

No articles but I do have documentation of losing to 240 and regaining to 442. Hopefully you can find some good stuff. My surgeon actually put a statement in my approval letter addressing that it would be dumb, not his words, to make me try another diet which is documented as not effective just so I could get a proven treatment. The exact quote is in my profile about mid December 2002.
