Question:
Could I be retaining water?
I am getting a little worried. I am almost 5 weeks post-op. I have been doing pretty good with my water in take for about a week now. Yesterday I got in 72 oz., all water, plus about 8 oz. of Crystal Light. I went for a walk lastnight. When I got home I sat down with my water bottle and drank the whole 32 oz. in about 30 minutes. My dad and husband were teasing me saying I would be up all night going to the bathroom. I wasn't. I went about 11:30pm, then not again until 6:30am. And during the day I am lucky if I go three times before bedtime. Shouldn't I be going more since I am drinking so much? Should I be worried about this and call my PCP? I have also noticed my weight jumping around the scale. One day I am down 2 lbs., the next day I have gained 4 lbs. Could this be from water retention? I appriciate any advice you can give me. — Maria S (posted on September 9, 2003)

I do believe the fact that your weight is jumping around is based on water
retention. If you don't get an answer from someone else on the boards that
makes sense to you, do call you PCP tomorrow and ask them the same question
you just posted. There's no reason to feel like you're bothering them if
you have a question that's concerning you. Good luck. S

I was thinking that the same thing is happening to me... water retention.
Then I have a bad leg that is swollen so I know that some of it is water
retention. The more I drink the more I seem to retain. I got my PCP to
give me some water pills... although he took blood out of my arm first to
make sure that my labs were good and they were perfect. I don't take the
diuretics every day and he also gave me potassium to take with them. I
think all of this will straighten itself out as time passes. God bless you
in your journey!
