Question:
Can some of you give me an idea of what things you were eating at 1 month post op?

Hi Jackie. I will be 5 weeks tomorrow. At week 3, my Dr. released me to "pureed foods" and what he said was that not everything needed to be put in the blender as long as I chewed it up until it was mush. Not so easy at first but I can do it now. I was never picky before but find that the chicken salad/tuna salad thing kind of grosses me out. Lately, I eat a lot of refried beans (taco bell does theirs in water so they are still good), chicken (I buy from various retaurants and just chew good). One "serving" is a bunch of meals for me. Just make sure its cooked healthy and not breaded and saucy. I also love the edamame (steamed soybeans) I get them at Trader Joe's already cooked and shelled - 3 cups for $1.99 and they are easy to chew into mush. 1/2 cup is 10g protein. Plain old skim milk is my favorite thing to drink over the shakes - but if I have a low protein day, I do a shake. I also have incorporated protein bars into my day but they are heavy. I take teeny weeny bites throughout the day and then only consume about 1/2 but it's still 15g of protein. Honestly, I don't care about food anymore since the surgery and so I eat on the clock and according to what will give me nutrients. Nothing I have tried has disagreed with me, EXCEPT once when I did not chew a piece of chicken well. I would not say I "threw" up but I did have to bring that little monster back out the way it came in...a good lesson for me to learn early on. I haven't tried anything "bad" yet and so far have no desire. Good luck to you. I'm hoping others post some new ideas.

Scrambled eggs, cottage cheese, ricotta cheese pureed peaches. Not too much and the best advice is to wait at least 5 min in between bites.

It was only 5 months ago that I had my RNY but it seems like forever--I'll try to remember my menu for that time ;-) I ate a lot of 'custom calzone filling'--a ripped up piece of boiled ham lunch meat, 1/4 cup of ricotta, a splash of tomato sauce, and a sprinkle of shredded mozzarella on top. I also ate green beans, a scrambled egg with things like mushrooms, asparagus, salsa and cheese (not all at once!), tiny chunks of peaches in water, chicken breast cooked in soup/sauce to make it moist and chewed to smithereens, and lunchmeat 'rollups' (slice of meat and cheese together). And the usual cottage cheese, canned chicken with lite mayo, lite n fit yogurt. Oh, and peanut butter on a wheatable cracker. I was only able to nibble away about 3, but it was a great occasional meal. Good luck finding foods you enjoy!

I am one month post op tommorrow, and i try to be creative. Turkey chili w/o beans, tablespoon of cheez whiz, and covered with mashed potatoes, nuked, it taste like shepard pie. Cooked shrimp with coctail sauce, with some vanilla pudding covered with cool whip A tablespoon of pasta sauce, canned chicken cover with parmaesn cheese, nuked, chicken parmaesn. refried beans with canned chicken covered with chedder and itian cheese, kinda like a chicken enchilata baked potatoe with chili and chedder cheese I had meatloaf and mashed potatoes at dinner the other night, and I just had to chew, chew, chew the meatloaf, but it was fine. The cheese and sausage off of the top of a pizza and some jello. Just do not be afraid to be creative, and there are alot of foods that you can eat, that are soft foods.

I just made it to 7 weeks post-op. My surgeon has his patients on soft food the day they leave the hospital. Coming up with things to eat was VERY hard. Trying to get enough protein in is not easy. Once I found Unjury chocolate protein powder I could add some carbs which made coming up with ideas easier. <p> I recently made a taco dish that tasted sooooo yummy. Lean hamburg with taco seasoning, salsa, LOTS of cheese and topped it with just a touch of sour cream. The cheese and hamburg gave me lots of protein and the rest gave me the flavor I had been wanting. I also melt provalone over ham, dice up onions and peppers in hamburg and mix unflavored protein powder with butterscotch pudding. Some days are still a challange, but it does get easier. Some meals I just eat a couple ounces of chicken with nothing on it. If it is warm it is great. When DH buys a pizza I take the topping off a slice and eat that. It is a nice treat also. Good luck!!!
