Question:
When can i eat fruits and veggies again?
I'm almost 8 weeks out, and i've been pretty good with the protein and very lo-carb for the most part. I'm missing fruits and veggies so much...when can i re-introduce them into my diet? i'll (of course) eat my protein first, but i'm dying for a few bites of tomatoes, peaches, etc. I'm a firm believer in a well-balanced diet with complex carbs...when can i begin to balance it? I recommend that you check with your doc. I'm surprised that at 8 weeks
out you wouldn't have been given this info yet. I was allowed to have
pureed veggies abd fruits after two weeks, and then regular vegetables and
fruits as tolerated beginning four weeks out, but every doc is different.
I urge caution with tomatoes as both the skin and seeds can clog your
stoma. For the same reason, be careful with peach skins (and apple skins,
grape skins, the membranes in citrus fruits, and the like).

I began eating some fruits 3 weeks post op. As stated by another, be
careful of skins and chew thoroughly...and of course get approval from your
Doc or dietician. Good luck!

I could have purreed such as applesauce at aound 4 weeks if I remember
right, raw after 6 weeks. I waited longer out of fear. When I did start
them I found they digest easier than anything. I must say My whole attitude
improved when I started eating more fresh veggies and fruits.

Are you on a supervised diet from your surgeon? If so, check with him
first. After my RNY, we were allowed soft canned fruits/mushy veggies
after about a month. By 5 weeks post-op I was eating my first salad with
soft veggies (tomato, mushroom, beans, hard boiled egg, lettuce) and by 6
weeks post-op I was trying the crunchy veggies in the salad-broccoli,
cucumber, carrot. By 6 weeks post-op I was trying all the fruits
especially ones like cantalope, watermelon and strawberries. Yum..
