Question:
I catch shoplifters for a major retailer...
And I was wondering when anyone thinks it is good time to go back to work. The job is such that at any time I could get into a fight during an apprehension. Most of the time is walking the floor but there is still that danger. My boss is just wondering and I don't know what to tell him. Any thoughts?? Thanks. — Lisa S. (posted on August 19, 2003)

Really this is something you should ask your doctor. Healing is an
individual thing and you should have a physical appointment with your
doctor and get cleared for work. Ask your doctor for an estimate for your
boss based on his experience with his patients, but remember everyone heals
at their own rate.

Most major surgery has a 6 week healing period, but for WLS my surgeon said
they know you are healed once you are 8 weeks out - but I'd definitely get
your surgeon to say, because he/she will be the one filling out your return
to work paperwork.

I agree with talking with your surgeon but I would suppose part of it would
be when you feel up to standing on your feet for an 8 hour shift.

I figured that I would wait till the Dr. says it is ok. I was just
wondering if there were any other people have the same type of job and what
they found. Thanks a lot all of you.
