Question:
Did you treat yourself to any kind of makeover on your way to goal or AT goal?
A lighthearted post here - just wondering if anyone else had given thought to updating their look once you were AT/almost at goal or have you actually treated yourself to this? — sweetmana (posted on July 22, 2003)

When I was 3 months post op, I was losing hair and decided that I would get
my hair cut short. So I got it cut into a fun flippy cut that I love. I am
now 9 months post op and down 115 pounds with 60 or so to goal. I haven't
treated myself to a makeover persay, but the clothes that I am wearing now
are all new and the style is much more youthful than what I would have
chosen (or had a choice of!) pre-op.

I also went from long hair to short and even added some highlights.
Blondes do have more fun! I stopped wearing the same old conservative gold
hoop earrings and started wearing jewelry to match my clothing. I started
wearing more fashionable clothing instead of frumpy frocks. I didn't have
a "one time" big makeover but once I reached goal I started
updating things. Within a few months I'd done a complete aboutface and
looked like I was 40 instead of 65. It was fun!

Well I did cut my hair shorter, and rather then going lighter I actually
went darker, started tanning and the darker hair actually looks better with
my skin tone. I also tend to wear make-up more often, allong with lip
stick and oh man do I assesorize, earings, watches, and what nots.....That
helped update my look a bit , I think its still a work in progress here,
still can't find the style/look I really like, torn between what the kid in
me wants / Belly rings, jeans and T-shirts or what the adult in me
needs...... career suits with a little sexy charm and charisma .......
Still a toss, but a work in progress.....

Fun topic! I knew I was going to need a new "drug," since I
wouldn't be able to self-medicate with ice cream and french fries after
surgery. I didn't wait long for a nice treat--10 days after my surgery, my
mom treated me to a manicure & pedicure (my first ever in a salon!),
and I treated myself to a new hairstyle and a facial. It was great, and
helped me feel better mentally even though physically, I was still feeling
pretty crappy after the surgery (open RNY 4/15/03). Since that time, I've
gone back for a few more pedicures, and I love it (ironically, I can
finally reach my feet and could actually do my own toenails, but it's just
so much better when someone else does it!). My toes look great in all the
new sandals I've been treating myself to (did I mention I love shoes?). I
also buy lots of books and let myself read whenever I feel like it,
something I didn't do much before surgery(don't worry, I still go to Curves
4 days a week for exercise). I also like to try on the clothes from the
back of my closet to see if I can fit back into them yet, and it's such a
treat when I can (and even better when I've waited too long and they're too
big!). But I think the biggest "treat" I've given myself is to
stop beating myself up over my weight. I had surgery to deal with this
problem once and for all, and I'm concentrating on the future, not the
past. I look forward to what each day brings now, instead of dreading it.
I'm finally taking good care of ME.
That probably sounds selfish, but putting everyone else ahead of me was how
I got into this mess in the first place!

When I started losing hair I cut it short. (Less in the shower to freak
over!) Then at goal I cut it REALLY short. I keep my toes done, although I
have given up on the fingers--I type all day so I don't like the fake nails
and polish on my regular ones lasts like a DAY. I wear stylish clothes
appropriate for my age (well, ok, and maybe a few "younger" items
LOL). AND I just got LASIK (which my insurance paid for!). Now if I could
just get my teeth bleached and a tummy tuck I would be a real hottie! ;)

You know what? I'm nowhere NEAR goal (I haven't even had the surgery
yet!)but I've already bought myself those little fake nipples that make it
look like they are always poking out...my hubby comes home from Iraq
approximately
3 1/2-4 months after I have the surgery and I really want to blow his mind!
:) I can say that's something I would have NEVER done before-I wouldn't
have had the guts. Now, since making such a monumentous decision to better
myself and have this surgery, I've been finding guts I didn't even know I
had!

I know this may sound selfish, but I have done nothing but work on myself.
I have always done for others making myself last. After surgery, I decided
this year I would work on me first. My daughter is grown and my husband's
career is settled. I made rewards for myself for certain goals. Each
reward was set up to help me feel better about myself. I first started
tanning (something my fat self would never think of doing), I then started
doing jewerly. Clothes were always changing of course. I then had
pedicure, manicure and had my eyebrows waxed. I recently had my hair
professionally cut and colored. A strawberry blonde color suits my new tan
and personality. I also had a make over done by AVON at a booth in the
mall. Face it I still can't afford the good good stuff. With the
combination of weight loss and the "new me" my confidence has
soared. I have changed jobs and love my new management position. I am
only afraid I may have soared to close to the sun. I am trying to keep my
new zest for life a little toned down. Do it for yourself. You deserve
it.

I'm still on my way to goal and have a long way to go. But I've lost 120
lbs, and when I get to 150 I'm going to have my nose peirced. lol I would
never have done it pre-op (and my mom's gonna hate it) but I want a tiny
little dainty stud. One that barely even shows, but I know it's there.
When I get completely down to goal and have had my excess skin removed, I'm
going to get a new tatoo. New clothes are a given, of course. Everyone has
to get new clothes. I want something more personal. And my hair is
already naturally blonde and hangs down just below my butt, so cutting it
short wouldn't exactly be a reward to me. And I don't tan, I just freckle.
lol But I love the pedicure idea! I'm gonna give that a try.

Funny you should ask that. I am 11 weeks post op, down 53 lbs. I just got a
totally new look this past Saturday. I had naturally curley hair- now it is
straight. I added color and highlights, and got a new hairstyle. It was so
funny to see the look on my friends faces as they saw the new me!!!! Some
of them had to look twice before they realized it was me!! It is amazing
what a boost of confidence it has given me!!
