Question:
Why do we have to wait one hour after we eat to drink any fluids?

Besides it filling us up it flushes the food out!(at least this is what we were told at our meetings!)

I was told that it will push your food out of your pouch too fast and you will be hungry again. For me the couple of times I have forgotten and taken a drink right after eating I have thrown up, because there is not enough room for the water after my little pouch was filled with food!

Melissa, What I was told, and what I haveread, picture your tummy being a funnel, .... a small one, place food into... food alone with slowly come out over time..... how-ever if you add water or any liquid to it, it'll push it threw.. thus making us hungier sooner, it may also make us feel sick.... I hold true to waiting at least 2 hours after I eat before I drink anything, it definetly helps........ keeps me fuller longer...... Best of luck, !

My surgeon has us wait 30 minutes before drinking so that we don't wash food through the pouch to quickly. By the way, food leaves the pouch and goes into the intestines in 30 minutes. That is why my doctor wants us to have our meals in about 20 minutes and then wait for 30 to drink.
