Question:
when is it safe to start doing lite exerciseing?
I'm 1 week post-op lap RNY and feel just fine other than fighting being head hungry! but I want to lose as much weight as I can fast. — Stacy R. (posted on July 17, 2003)

Right after my surgery, my Dr. told me that after two weeks I could start
walking...no lifting..just walking. I walked a mile everyday. Today is my
one month anniversary and my Doctor told me that I can start working out
(doing cardio and resistance training). So, I joined Curves! WooHoo! Just
remember to take it easy - you're still healing >^,,^< (Good Luck to
you!!)

You should already be walking. Anything else, your doctor will let you
know when.

Stacy, like previous said, you should be walking already, not for exercise
but for prevention issues like blood clots or pneumonia. But exercise wise,
I'd wait a few weeks. Let yourself rest fully, you'll be fatigued I'm sure.
As for lifting and strenuous exercise like running- ask your doctor, but
you should wait atleast a month. Good for you for wanting to get the ball
rolling- you'll do great! Oh, and that head hunger will most likely go away
real soon- before you know it you'll have to force yourself to eat! Could
you have ever imagined that? It may be head hunger somewhat as well- are
you watching alot of TV? (those food commercials killed me! lol) Goodluck
to you :-)

Check with your doctor! They are all different. I was allowed to walk, but
just to keep the blood moving, until 8 weeks and then I could go to the
gym.
