Question:
Is it better to start your day with water or protein?
I was just curious about this. Is it better to start your day with water or a protein supplement before or after breakfast — snicklefritz (posted on July 8, 2003)

Protein drinks are considered as liquid so it really doesn't matter.

I am willing to bet this will be as personal a preference as any! I start
my day with 16-20 ounces of water, THEN have my breakfast (whatever form it
may take that day). This works really well for me, but you may find you
like to mix it up a bit differently...I'm interested in the responses to
your question!

Well, your body is in "sleep" mode until you put some calories in
it, so I would say that the sooner you put something caloric in your tummy
the sooner your metabolism would kick up to waking levels.

I start with my water as soon as my feet hit the floor in the morning and
also take my iron for the day. Then, about an hour later, I drink my first
protein drink, followed an hour later by breakfast.

I have enver liked to eat right when I get up, and my pouch doesn't like
water first thing in the morning. After I've been up for a couple of
hours, I'll have two cups of Rocamojo (26 grams of protein), and then an
hour later I'll have breakfast (usually 1/2 cup of either yogurt or cottage
cheese). If I had to put soemthing in my pouch first thing in the morning,
protein food would work better than water.

we were told to eat within two hours of waking, to help wake up our
metabolism. That said, I usually drink my caffeine first thing in the
morning, have my water and then eat breakfast about 90 minutes after I get
up. Don't do supplements so not sure on the answer for that specifically.

I am weird so bear with me. I drink a bottle of water first, I get up at
5-530am. Then later I'll have a protein bar or tuna with crackers if I am
at work. at home I have an egg with cheese. If I start out with a protein
shake I get the WORST gas, and it lasts all day. not an issue to deal with
when you are a nurse working in a hospital with patients all day. IF I
have a protein shyake it is in the evening or on my day off when I have
only my family to offend. ( as my dearly beloved daughter said one day as
we were sitting outside "mom. you are even stinking up the
outdoors!" again, a personal prefernece issue to me, as long as you
meet all your bodies needs in a way that works for you!

I drink a powder that you mix with water and it tastes like Kool-aid, so I
do both at the same time!
