Question:
I am 7 weeks post-op and still have trouble with some protein. Fish doew well,
but sometimes when I eat chicken or other moist meats, my stomach aches. I am not over eating because it happens on the 1st or 2nd bite. Is this just my system trying to get used to the dense protein? — Wendy S. (posted on June 25, 2003)

I'm 10 weeks post-op RNY, and I have the same problem. Chicken often gives
me a stomachache after the first bite, no matter how well I chew it, same
with fresh fish or tuna. Oddly enough, I can eat turkey jerkey with no
real problems. Go figure! I have no problems with beans, cheese, yogurt,
tofu, peanut butter or eggs, so I've decided to just go vegetarian for the short term until my
stomach has a chance to heal a bit more. I HOPE this is only temporary,
because I've always been a meat eater, and I miss it!

personally, I hate fish BUT if you are doing well with it, then you are way
ahead of the game. Fish has a lot of protein in it - so if you do well
with it, you're not having trouble with protein...just meats :>) I
found that at about 3 months meat was no problem, generally. Keep eating
the catch of the day and watch the weight slip away :>)
