Question:
Which antidepressant is best for us post ops to help with weight loss?
I have more anxiety than depression. Thanks for your help! — Patra R. (posted on June 25, 2003)

Everyone's different. You'll probably have to do some experimenting before
you find what works for you. Celexa is a good anti-anxiety med to take.
But may not deal with the depressive part. Make sure you talk to a
counselor and have guidance thru it all. Now, according to your
question...technically NO antidepressant will help you lose weight -- so
give up that notion (cause you know we'd all be knocking down the pharmacy
like a lot of us did with Phen Fen). But it will help if you have a
depressive/anxiety type personality. Good luck and God bless!

My doctor started me on Wellbutrin SR for anxiety and depression as he
stated it is only one of the few anti-depressants that also helps you curb
your appetite - plus - it makes you really thirsty, so you end up drinking
more water. That's just one doctor's opinion, though. Also, I haven't had
surgery yet, but my surgeon said I could stay on it after surgery. Good
luck! Missy

I have had really good results with Paxil. It comes in liquid and I plan
to use that postop.

I take Wellbutrin SR, I just wish it was smaller. I'm scared of it getting
stuck.
