Question:
Can we use Nasonex, Flonase, or Medrol Dose Packs?
My allergies are really bad this year. Is it okay to use the nose sprays like Nasonex and Flonase? Also when they get really bad can we use the Medrol Dose Pack or get cortizone shots? — cfstevens (posted on June 1, 2003)

I haven't used the sprays but I know people who do and they are fine. I
did take Medrol Dosepak for flea bites last summer and had no problems with
it at all. I called my surgeon to see if it was ok and he said it was
fine. I was about 8 months post-op at the time.

i use flonase every day with no problems. i have had a chronic allergic
sinusitis for 5+ years & the flonase works the best to stop the post
nasal drip.

I agree with Sheryl...Flonase works great. You do have to make sure you use
it daily though, don't work as well if you use it occasionally. I also have
some Clarinex which I use if pollen count is real high, or if I happen to
be doing the lawn mowing. The Clarinex is in addition to the Flonase. I
have had numerous sinus surgeries and often feel like an armchair expert on
nasal issues :o

I, too, use Flonase daily. Nose sprays and injections are fine for us..its
the anti-inflamatory pills that can irritate the pouch or cause ulcers, or
some time release pills that do not have time to break down in our systems
that are usually not a good idea. In fact, I prefer chewables or liquids
or injections, that way I know that its in my system.

Hi Cheryl, as an Orthopedic professional, I can tell you that we precaution
every patient getting a Medrol script. Medrol can act the same as aspirin
on your stomach. You should not take any other anti-inflamatories or
aspirin products while taking a Medrol Pak. My suggestion to you would be
to make sure your prescribing doc knows all about WLS surgery, and how far
post-op you are. And no more than three Medrol scripts in a twelve month
period, that's for non-post ops too... If after all this, your doc writes
a script for a Medrol Pak, then I'd say go for it.
