Question:
People with IBS having WLS how does it affect you?
I was just diagnoised with Irritable Bowel Syndrom. I have a consult scheduled for 5/5/03. How will the surgery affect me? — babrewer (posted on May 3, 2003)

I seem to have less diaherri (sorry about the spelling) and gas that before
surgery. I was worried it would be worse. I still have the problem, but
it isn't as serious.

I was diagnosed with IBS about 8 years ago. It has been pretty well
controlled for about 6 years with the occassional flare up. I experienced
a few problems the first weeks as my body adjusted to everything but have
been fine since. I'm 12-1/2 weeks PO.

I was diagnosed with IBS about 3 years ago after having my gallbladdar out.
Before, I dumped even when I drank water. I'm only 10 days out, but have
had fewer episodes. Could be where I'm not able to have anything but
liquids, but it does seem to be better. Good luck and hope everything goes
smoothly for you...-10 days out and #14 lighter.

I had a proximal (80 cm) open RNY on January 15, 2003. My IBS has
continued, pretty much the same as before surgery. If anything, I have more
gas.
