that he wanted me to have a safer surgery, considering I have a hard time
healing after surgery.Well I've lost the 30 pounds and I'll have my surgery

Rhonda: I was not told this but I had a starting bmi of 43. I had the
most radical, malapsorptive surgery -the BPD/DS. I actually starting
getting really low -- down to about 138 lbs (bmi of around 20 - cutoff is
18.5). I just wasn't stopping at around 2 years post-op! Turns out I had
an internal hernia. It became strangulated and I had emergency surgery to
save my life last NOvember. It is a rare complication for both the BPD/DS
and the RNY. My surgeon thinks I got so low because I did experience a
lack of appetite a few months prior to the emergency surgery. I have not
known many people who lost 'too much weight', but I do know one gal who DID
go UNDER goal and required a revision to extend her common channel to
counteract the extreme malapsorption. She had a starting bmi of around 40,
though (pretty low for most BPD/DS surgeries). All the best, (lap BPD/DS

My surgeon told me that, but so far, I'm a slow loser. I'm 4 months post,
and I've lost 50lbs. My BMI was 41, and he was concerned I'd lose more than
100lbs. We'll see!

At a year post op I had lost down to 150-155 and was WAY cool with that. I
had to have surgery to remove an ulcer and had to follow the modified
eating as I did following the RNY. I was terrified that I would lose even
more weight. I did not want to weight 120 lbs. I met with the
nutritionist while in the hospital. She explained that I probalby would
lose more than I want or should, but eventually it would bounce back up.
She suggested that I eat more frequently to up my calorie count. To eat
protien foods, not candy and it will help keep me from losing too much.
That was 8 months ago. I lost down to 135 and that is where I am
currently. I eat constantly and of course, all the wrong things and can
not seem to gain any of it back. I look too thin now, I do not like it. I
wear a size 6 and that just seems very wrong. lol But as long as I am not
losing, im cool.

My dr. hasn't told me this, but I know that it does happen to some people.
Typically they need to cut back on exercise and start adding higher calorie
foods into their diet again. I am 13 months out and still loosing 8-10
pounds a month since upping my exercise and am starting to get a little
concerned I may have this problem - I've lost 8 pounds in the past 2 weeks.
I am 5'2 and at 156 now and can still lose another 30-40 and be considered
"healthy", but at this point am starting to try and force myself
to eat a little more. I'm not cutting back on my exercise until I hit my
goal of 130, however...
