Question:
Is divided the same as transected?
I am 10 months out from a roux en Y and I suddenly feel gurgling on the right side. I used to be able to feel foods and esp. cold water going through my pouch on the left, now I feel it going across my upper middle all the way to the far left and I'm concerned this means I have a staple disruption. I still eat very small meals, but can't go the 4 hours between them that I used to. I looked at my operative report and it says "laparoscopic divided Roux-en-Y gastric bypass". I have a feeling if it were transected it would say transected, but I just had to ask. I am having panic attacks every time I feel that gurgling on the left! — Christene P. (posted on April 19, 2003)

Christene: As far as how you're feeling, only YOU would know if something
feels different. See your surgeon. I can only answer your question on
"transected vs. divided". Both words mean the same thing, EXCEPT
that transected refers to HOW something was cut/divided. In other words,
from where to where. All "transected" means is that something
was divided crosswise (left to right, right to left, and not up and
down)...hope that at least answers one question...good luck, and I would
definitely see your surgeon if I were you***Amy-LAP RNY 04-09-03, -16lbs

Transect and Divide does not mean the same thing. Divided only means you
just have staples dividing the pouch and stomach. Transected means there is
sutra's running through the center of the staples, and is misunderstood as
a stomach seperation, but in both cases the pouch and stomach is still to
close to be considerd a stomach seperation. If your only divided then all
you have is a staple line. I am a self-payer so I have done extensive
research on this prior to having my RNY so I would know exactly what I was
going to have done before I paid for it. So there *IS* quite a few ways to
preform the RNY. So research is something I highly recommend doing! If I
was you I would make an appointment with your surgeon first thing Monday
morning. Good Luck to you and I hope it turns out to be nothing!!!!!!!!!

I don't know the difference but I was transected and was cut vertically on
the lesser curvature of the stomach. The pouch and the stomach are
physcially separated and not together at all. Seems like we are all
different but with the vertical cut there is less stretching of the pouch
since this tissue is less elastic like.
