Question:
How long do I have to wait to swim after tummy tuck?
I'm going out of town this weekend and want to know if it's ok to get in the pool at the hotel. I will be 6 weeks post tt tomorrow. I saw my surgeon yesterday. He cleared me for mild exercise a couple weeks ago, but I forgot to ask him about this specifically. — Karla K. (posted on April 17, 2003)

I was in a pool 2 weeks post TT...as long as your incision is COMPLETELY
closed, you should be okie and dokie!! I found that could not *swim*, the
movement at 2 weeks post TT was a little too much, but it was summer time,
I was hot and sticky and the pool felt very good. I just kind of floated
and walked around the shallow end and did just fine. Take it easy...don't
overdo and I think you'll be just fine. Have a Sparkling Day!! ~CAE~

Everybody (and their surgeon too) is different. Best to give them a call.
Myself, I wasn't released for exercise until week 8 or 9 and to build up
from there. So real swimming might be out of the question still. But if
you're all healed on the outside you should at least be able to get in the
pool and enjoy yourself. My local PCP insisted on an exam though before
releasing me to water walk in my gym's pool. I guess she just wanted to
make cerain I was totally healed incision-wise.
