Question:
Has anyone had MEDICARE pay for their gastric bypass surgery?

Well my surgery is the 31 of this month medicare is paying 80% of it and my secondary insurance pays the rest but if medically nessicary then you dont even nedd a latter of approval from medicare the automatic cover it if it is medically ness, GOOD LUCK I hope this helps

My surgery is set for April 21, 2003. My doctor is doing the surgery and then billing Medicare. Since I need to have the surgery and I have several doctors backing me, I was told there will be no problems in the authorization. Hope that helps, Good Luck!!!

I am still waiting for approval on my medicaid. Medicare isnt a problem it seems. They will pay the 80%, but if your secondary doesn't approve, you will have to prepay the other 20%.That is my understanding anyways. Good luck,

I had my surgery in August of 2002, and since it was medically neccesary for me to have the surgery I did not have to have any pre-approval for Medicare to pay. Medicaid did not pay anything, and I believe my Medicare payed all but a few dollars. So good luck!

I have Medicaid. My surgeon sent in a preauthorization (which Medicaid says is required), and within 2 months I was approved. Good Luck.
