Question:
Where can I get a card that allows me discounts at restaurants?

donna go to the library section and type in resturant card. There is a lot
of info on them there. Most people on here don't use them for various
reasons. Also few resturants honor them. One poster said she used to go
eat with her skinny friend who never ate much but she never heard her
friend ask for a discount. Good point! Take a doggie bag home or only
order a side or soup.

Gee, I wish I could get one of thoses DISCOUNT cards! What I have is a
business card sized card I got from my surgeon that asks that I may be
allowed to order from the children's menu or pay for smaller portions.
Only used it a couple of times. I like it because it has a picture of what
the surgery looks like, I have used it more for that!

Did you have a card when you ate more than a average person allowing the
restaurant to charge you extra *G*?????? Seriously, the restaurants
don't have to honor the card, but a lot of the times, if you take a moment
to explain the situation, they will be more than happy to allow you to
order from the kids menu (which is usually crappy nutritionally anyhow) or
from the senior-citizens menu (which is usually reduced portions).

Alternatives that have already been mentioned are to order an appetizer
(shrimp cocktail has lots of protein) or order a regular dinner and eat a
portion of the meal and take the rest home for subsequent meals...JR

I'm pre-op - Awaiting 3/26!! I feel as long as my husband doesn't order
off a buffet or a meal that is all you can eat- I should be able to share
what he orders. If I had the card, and was questioned , I would save it to
the restruant personal. But not everyone honors it. Now ordering off the
Children's menu - has anyone REALLY seen what is on it? Hot Dogs,
Hamburgers, Fried Chicken or Fingers and Macaroni -- doesn't sound healthy
to me. Best thing to do is order something healthy and taken the rest home
for later or for your family. We have to come to the realization that we
are allowed to throw food away - we are not a trash bin. Lots of times
we've done this and it has gone to our hips, stomach etc. Good Luck. Sally,

Here are a few generic restaurant cards you can print out and take to your
surgeon to sign for you:

I have never used a restaurant card to eat out. Generally I either order
from the senior menu (better food choices at than kiddie menu & smaller
portions than regular menu) or I order a regular meal and take the majority
of it home.
I NEVER have even tried to use the card my Dr. gave me. I feel it is
nobodies business that I had surgery, particularly total strangers. I don't
feel the need to tell them or explain it to them or call undue attention to
my self. Any place will allow you to order appetisers or soup, most will
allow you to split with another person. I often order shrimp cocktail and
take a few bites of my husband's salad and potato. Childrens menus
generally have stuff I wouldn't feed to a child let alone my self with my
specific nutritional needs. If I want something other than an appetiser I
just order what I want. sometimes I get a sandwich, and take off the bread.
TGI Fridays has a great roasted veggie and mozzarella sandwich, that is
easy to take off the bread, and it comes with a small salad. Many
restaurants have smaller portions at lunch. I often order a regular meal,
had steak at outback recently, ordered the smallest one and took home
leftovers. cold steak sliced really thin and put over a salad is awesome. I
enjoy the leftovers for my lunches. we eat out a lot. By the way even if I
throw away the leftovers, I paid for them & I got a full meal even tho
it is less than others eat. If I owned a restaurant I probably wouldn't
give discounts on buffets either, part of the cost is the service and cooks
salary. Also Red Lobster has a lot of things you can get in half portions.
My recommendation is to go to places that serve what you can eat, avoid
buffets, and remeber eating out is for more than the food, It is the
company you are with that is most important.

Always a hot topic of debate...LOL. I have cards that I made up on my
computer (program that makes business cards). Anyway, I have these cute
little cards, all laminated and everything...NEVER used 'em. I decided a
while back that I had this surgery to be normal, (I know, how dare I?) and
bringing extra attention to myself by using a restaurant card just rubs me
the wrong way. I get a regular meal and take home the leftovers...or I
share with my kids and my husband. If a waiter asks me if there is
something *wrong*, my husband actually came up with the best answer, *she
just has a really small appetite*. It's the truth...it's
non-specific...and it works. In 16 months, I've had only one bad
experience...the waitress got a little too much in face about why I wasn't
making all gone with my dinner...out of frustration and anger for her not
minding her own business I screamed out at her that I had had stomach
cancer and that 80% of my stomach had been removed. Let me tell you, that
waitress will NEVER get into someone's business again!!! She turned 56
shades of red and purple...and I got my meal for free that night...her
manager happened to be walking by when I had my little outburst. Now, I
don't advocate that kind of behavior, but, she had it coming.
Anyway...just my opinion. Have a Sparkling Day!!! ~CAE~
