Question:
9 Months Post Op- Unexplained Abdominal Pain
I am 9 months post op. I'm down 90lbs. For the last 4 months I have experienced extreme abdominal pain. I've had a ct scan, egd, small bowel follow through, ultrasound all normal. I've been to the ER and to my surgeon. The doctors keep telling me there is nothing wrong. But I know pain is not normal. Some days I don't hurt at all but there are days when I can't stand up straight. HAS ANYONE ELSE EXPERIENCED THIS????? — kay G. (posted on March 16, 2003)

Wow. I can't imagine we'd come up with anything those tests haven't
uncovered. But we can certainly speculate along with you. Divide your torso
into quads & then quad them, if you have to . Can you define WHERE?
When? (with,before/after food/water?) How long? Sharp or dull or burning?
Duration? Nausea or reflux? Make notes to yourself of your answers, too, so
you can bring them to the doc the next time, if you haven't already
described this to a fine hair.

They can't find out what is causing mine ether. I did have an exray (my
gallbladder is out). It hurts like the gallbladder too. Anyway these
intermittant pains are deathly painful and last around 3 hours. The
emergency room is no help as all they want to do is stick an IV in you and
shut you in a room for 3-4 hours before someone sees you. By then it's
over. I don't even go anymore. I decided to try some ulcer medicine
prescribed by a doctor (Nexin probally not spelled right). Anyway, I will
be on it for 3-4 months to see if the pains stop. So far so good.

I am 4 weeks post op and I'm going through the same thing. My surgeon ran
tests and took xrays...they found nothing. I've been going through this
for almost 2 weeks now. It's to the point where I can't even do anything or
eat anything! Please email me if you find out anything, right now all I
have been told is, it will past eventually.

Kay, I am 11 months post-op and for the past month or so I have been
having a pain in my abdomin as well. It's right at the top of the scar
just below my boobs in the middle. It's more like a burning pain and gets
pretty severe at times. The doc checked me out and said there is no hernia
and everything feels fine. He figured it was a pulled muscle because I had
shoveled alot of snow but it comes and goes. I have no idea what it is
either.
