Question:
Is milk a good meal?
Sometimes if I don't have time to eat, I'll just pour a big glass of milk and drink that as a meal. Has anyone else ever done this and is it OK? — Emily W. (posted on February 19, 2003)

What surgery did you have? I had RNY and my surgeon discourages drinking
milk. And he discourages using protein supplements as a meal replacement.
I have to have a protein drink every day but it can not replace a meal. He
stresses the importance of eating three meals a day. Your meal could be
crackers and peanut butter or some cheese.

Hi, Emily. Every surgeon and program is different so you may want to check
with your doctor for specifics. My surgeon as well as the nutritionist
want me to add a protein shake (ie, SF Carnation Instant Breakfast w/fat
free milk or soy milk) to my daily diet. I am allowed to substitute it as
a meal. I hope this helps. :-)

My dr says a mini meal / snack can be a s simple as a glass of milk. I do
usually add some protein powder myself as I can't get in all I need by
eating yet

I had LAP RNY and was encouraged to drink milk. I have about 6 small meals
a day, 3 of those are liquid (I still consider them meals) One of which is
NSA carnation with milk. Some people disagree with milk, for many different
reasons, but I like it, it has protein and calcium (even though its
carbonate) and it does have sugar and carbs, but a little here and there
don't kill you. I think as long as you're still eating other meals along
with it, it's fine. I've been doing this for 8 1/2 months and lost 105 lbs.
Seems ok to me so far. Like I said, though, everyone has different
opinions! goodluck to you!
