I'm 53 yrs old and I had taken every "diet pill" known to mankind
, I never knew one that would make the weight come off faster than WLS or
more permantly. Patience has never been one of my virtues , I always wanted
instant gratification. My saving grace was knowing I would never have to
lose those pounds over again. If you keep on losing at the rate you are in
your first year you will have lost well over a hundred pounds if you
continue to do that in your second year you will have diappeared entirely!
I know this is difficult for you but you really are doing so well, try to
be more patient with yourself. I know you said no lectures , but I'm old
and motherly , and 3 years post op.

I agree with the previous poster, I dont want to lecture you but as good
friends we have to offer good advice. Stay away from diet pills, it would
muck up you metabolism and body chemistry. Take some exercise instead to
kick up the weight loss. However i do think your loss is great to date.
Well done.

I TRULY APPRECIATE THE ADVISE TO BE PATIENT BUT THAT IS NOT WHY MY QUESTION
IS HERE.. I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR FROM PEOPLE WHO ARE TAKING DIET PILLS,
BECAUSE I KNOW THAT AT LEAST 100 OF YOU DO OUT OF THE MILLIONS THAT COME
HERE. IF YOU HAVE LOST YOUR WEIGHT QUICKLY, OR AREN'T AT LEAST IN THE SAME
BOAT I AM YOU COULDN'T POSSIBLY UNDERSTAND HOW UNHAPPY AND DISAPPOINTED I
AM.

I have used ephedrine (Ripped Fuel) since surgery to boost energy for my
workouts. I take one recommended dosage on days I workout. I take ONE
dosage, that's it. I workout a couple of hours in the EARLY morning (1 hour
of cardio + 1 hour of weight training), drink plenty of water, and watch
what I eat. I am also in college, work, and a attend martial arts classes
4x a week (at night). Be careful with these pills. Some people have had
adverse effects so talk to your doctor first. You should ask them about
ephedra free diet pills. DO NOT TAKE MORE THAN RECOMMENDED!! I feel that
alot of the ephedra backlash is overblown by people who took to much and
lawyers looking to start a class action suit. However, the could hurt you if
you have a pre-existing condition and/or misuse them, so please consult
your doctor first. Too much of anything could be bad.

I only lost 49 pounds in the first 5 months, and most of that was in the
first 2 months. That's when I began taking Metabolife. I take 3 pills,
first thing in the morning. I found it did give a boost to my metabolism,
as well as help control hunger. However, each person is different. I have
an enlarged stoma, so I can eat normal quantities of food. Metabolife gives
me the tool the surgery failed to give me. Also, I never have caffine,
never, and I have normally low blood pressure (100 over 60). Because of
those two factors, I feel comfortable taking a product with ephedra. I also
never take the recommended dosage of 8 pills a day. I agree with the other
poster. You must use any and all diet products sensibly.

hummm...you say that you KNOW it is a no-no but you still want information
about it....doing unhealthy things that were no-no's is a major part of the
reason we are over weight to begin with. really you just want someone to
tell you want you want to hear.....NOT what is the best advice. you have
only been post-op for 4.5 months and you want to risk messing with your
body using things you know are wrong....your body is still adjusting and
healing. have you mentioned how you feel to your doctor?...and if you did i
bet he told you that your weightloss is normal.....and i really BET he
didn't tell you want you wanted to hear. i wish you all the best of luck.
and i am not trying to bash you.....but you really should get some help
from a professional......not a Q&A about something so serious to your
health.
p.s i have a damaged liver and kidneys due to useing over the counter diet
pills......

I'm not going to lecture you, but I would highly suggest you talk to you
doctor about diet pills and if they are going to make a difference in
increasing weight loss for you. I don't think there is anyone here who can
tell you what pills to take.

Hi KK:
Please do not get discouraged. At 4.5 months, I had lost 49 pounds. My
second month was the worst of all. I believe some of us actually lose more
as time passes. You may be one of those. I know that having used diet
pills from the time I was 14, they never worked for me before. You, and me
for that matter, are doing all the right things. But unfortunately, we are
slow losers. At 5 1/2 months, I have lost 67-69 pounds, so it is still
coming off slowly but surely. I would give it a little time, before you
start on diet pills. You will lose weight. Do not get bummed out by
stories of those who have lost 100 pounds in six months. You and I have
similar losses, and I am still losing a little further out than you. Good
luck.

I have post op, but only about three times and only a couple of pills to
get off the plauteo. I should again but I can't find my pills. I have to be
careful as most pills seem to have epedura... VERY DANGEROUS! I found some
that don't seem to have them, and don't bother my heart. Mine I got at
greatamericanproducts.com and are the ULTIMATESLIM. Now they have
ULTIMATESLIM2. (But I've never tried them). Persoanally I think it is
always good to avoid these things, however I've found it has gotton me off
some plataos. But whenever they say (for any of these meds) "take two
or three pills every so many hours", I only take one pill a couple
times a day. So actually I take 1/3 of whatever they say. (Both pre and
post op). I don't like pills and always take way less than they say. Most
diet pills just speed up your heart and are dangerous so you must be
carefull. These are the only ones I've ever had that haven't bothered mine.
But do be careful with any diet meds. Long term they are NOT the answer. ;)

Karen,
Just recently at one of our group meeting, My surgeon brought up the topic
of ephedra, to jump start our weight loss, (To his WLS patients) he said
that as long as we take the natural form of it, with nothing added to it,
and take only the recoomened dosages we should not worry about anything,
and this came from my surgeon. He said if we weren't able to find the
purest form of it he would even prescribe it to us. The ephedra I only take
from time to time, for added energy. The doctor states that it take about 6
weeks for the effects of the constatnly taking it for the energy high to
wear off, then it uses the drug to make you run body run at a higher speed,
internally speaking, you burn at a faster rate. Again I dont take it often
when I do it's just for added energy, and that's when I'm really dragging.
My sister is currently taking Phentermine, how-ever she's still pre-op,
soon to be opst op by the end of the year. I how-ever don't think I'd touch
the phentermine just yet....
Hope this helps a little, best of luck to you Karen,
Ps. You're doing great
Post op 8 months down 115 pounds
