Question:
What happens to our Metabolism after surgery?
Can someone please tell me what happens to our metabolism after surgery? & what to do to speed it up? Does exercise still speed it up? What is the relation between low calories & metabolism? — LionGirl2k (posted on February 4, 2003)

That is why it is important for us to eat 4-6 times a day to keep our
metabolism burning. Even though we are eating small quanities it keeps the
fire burning. If we don't eat enough our bodies switch into starvation
mode and our metabolism slows way down. Of course any form of exercise
helps speeds up the metabolism also. But the most important component is
fuel. If you do not eat enough you won't have the energy to exercise. **

listen to Linda A. because what she is telling you is the truth. I had my
surgery (open rny) on 5/14/2 and I have gone from 405 lbs. to 238 lbs. so
far. On the days that I don't keep up with my water, protein or exercise my
weight will just lock in and stay no matter what I do but if I pay
attention to those importent 3 things the weight just keeps falling. By the
way in the last 9 months I have lost as much weight as my doctor thought it
would take me 1.5 years to lose. Good Lock !!!

OK, so if my BMR is 1500 & I'm only taking in 600-800 calories, what
happens? Does the body convert the fat to fuel at this point or no?
Thank you to the previous posters for the info re water & supplements,
I often forget that if no water goes in, no weight will leave. & I
understand that muscle burns calories faster, but I just am not completely
understanding the process.
