Question:
I am 4 weeks out, down 20 lbs...I am still hungry A LOT..

and I am worried that this surgery did not work like it was supposed to!! I am eating all that I am supposed to and haven't seen the scale move in over a week....I am exercising and doing everything right, it's just frustrating to hear peers losing 30, 40, 50 lbs already...very discouraging. I was a lightweight (245, 5'8", 38 BMI), but still..a whole week with no progress???!!??!!?? Thanks for your advice in advance.    — Amy S. (posted on February 4, 2003)

I was the same way and I have to admit I am still hungry all the time. I am 3 months post op and have lost 62 pounds. beleive me i have had more weeks with no loss then BAMM, it comes off in chunks. i ask my doc why i was hungry all the time and she said it was because i was eating maybe too fast and not taking in enough fluids, she said hungry is the only way our body can tells us we need fluids as well as food.

Are you really hungry? Or is it head hunger? I know the first month for me I didn't know the difference, and also seeing all those food commercials while I was recovering did not help at all! How many meals or liquid foods are you having a day? If i eat 5 small meals I am less hungry than when I eat 3 meals a day. ALso, it is very normal to have a plateau this early on. SO even if you haven't lost weight in a week, or 2, it's ok. You're body is just reacting to the dramatic changes it just went through, it will catch up and you'll lose weight again. 20lbs. in 4 weeks is wonderful! It's hard not to compare ourselves to others, but it doesn't help. You're a lightweight and will lose slower than others. I was 250lbs and 5'2" and have lost over 100lbs. in 8 months, I'm content with that! Goodluck to you :)

HI, just wanted to say that if it is that time of the month, you will probably stop loosing for a little as well. I am also 4 weeks out and didn't loose anything for 2 weeks. It was because I was starting my period. After it was over I lost 3 more pounds the next day. You are doing great, don't worry!! Lots of luck to you!!
