Question:
What does 180-190 lbs. at 5'5 look like?

I am a little over 6 months out from Open RNY. I have lost 113 lbs. and I still am having a difficult time seeing it on me. I can look at others in my local support group and see HUGE differences in them though! We had a clothing exchange the other day, and I brought a whole basket of clothes home that were 3 sizes too big or more. I just cant see myself for what I am. I still feel I look the same. I am about 5'5, and around 188 lbs. right now. If any of you are around that, or have pictures of when you were, please tell me where to look at them. Maybe by seeing others around my weight it will help me. I was talking to this lady the other day and I thought, "Wow, I can't wait until I look as thin as her!" and then I found out I weighed 10 lbs. less! When do we get a clear and normal body picture of ourselves? Because it is funny...When I weighed 301 lbs...I thought I looked about 180 lbs. Now, it is the complete opposite! UGGH! Thanks! I am 5'6", and my 'before' pix I was over 250- hard to see in the muu-muu, behind my husband! By the time I had surgery the following year I was at 277. In my 'after' picture I am around 189, and I stabilized at 195... People say I look thinner than 195, but I feel all of my 195. I plan on trying to get to my goal of 150 after I have my baby...

You might try this. http://www.virtualmodel.com/mvmhome/jsp/home.jsp? On this website you can create a model of yourself at any weight, height and body type. I know when I put in my current info, it comes up very near what I look like except for facial features, hair, ect. It may help you get a more realist idea of where you are at right now. Hope it helps. Dave.

Hi, you could try going to www.virtualmodel.com, you put in your height and the weight you are wondering about, and it will give you a pretty realistic view of what you would look like at that weight. (Lap Rny 8/7/02 -108)

Hi Shawnie, I just sent my before and after pics to someone from the website who will scan them and put them on my profile. I have found the best way to 'see' myself at this weight is to take pictures and put them side by side w/ before photos. I also go to the store and try on things in my current size 16 just to get used this new reality. I don't actually buy the stuff, but have fun staring in the mirror and thinking..."yep, this is me in a 16, who would have thunk it?" I know the mental image will have to reshape as my body gets smaller...as I have been a size 16 somewhere in my distant memory...but smaller? uh....highschool maybe? Don't rely on mirrors to give you real feedback as they can look different...there are some at my health club that are flattering and another that looks like those you see in the fun house of a carnival. All of this to say...take pics of yourself. I buy a disposable camera every month and pose in the same place each time. It will help me as I continue this journey to see where I was and where I am going. All the best to you.

Shawnie, I will post my newest post-op pic tonight after I get home from work. Check back again in a few hours (the old pic was when I weighed 207 pounds.) I am 5'4 1/2" and weigh 194 pounds. I think you'll get an idea of how you look even though I'm 6 pounds heavier than you (and we may carry our weight in different areas!) :o)

My favorite thing to use to see a difference on me is Http://WWW.mvm.com This web site is My Virtual Model where you type in your height, weight, and facial features and than you type in your weight (up to 350 only) and it brings up what you would look like and you can also decide where you weight is carried and all. Any questions just email me! Good job on all the weight loss - Sandra

Let me tell you I know I am lighter but still think I am the same size as before my surgery. Although I know thats just me, my sizes have gone down from 26/28 to some 16's and 18's. My family alone are stunned. So I think our mental perception is stuck in fat mode. I am sure it will catch up eventually! Good Luck!
