Question:
Two months post-op...Am I dropping the weight too fast?

I am two months post-op, and feeling great! Still, a dear friend stated (who has also had this surgery), stated that I may be dropping the weight too fast. I started at 260, and I am now at 207. While I feel fine, I am concerned that I have dropped so much weight. I had the surgery more for medical reasons than for weight loss, as I never really considered myself greatly obese. If there is anyone out there who has had the same concerns, please let me know. Thanks bunches!    — Laura K. (posted on January 2, 2003)

I had surgery 10/23 and am down from 315 to 260. I never think it is too fast - actually want it to be faster. I wouldn't worry about it. You'll slow down soon enough. Remember, every body is different.

Congrats on your weight loss! Don't panic and enjoy it now because it will slow down. I had a starting weight of 298 and now weigh 198, 6 months later. At 2 months post-op I had also lost 60 pounds. I have another 30 or 40 to goal and am losing less than 10 pounds per month these past 2 months. But I'm happy, have energy and my only "side effects" are hair loss (which is slowing down) and some constipation issues from time to time. What is your height? Your goal weight? You may be a lucky one who hits goal at 6 months. Listen to your body. If you feel fine then make sure you continue to feel fine. Drink your water, take your vitamins and focus on your protein intake. Congrats again and may you have continued success & good health! - Anna LAP RNY 7/3/02

I started out at a 45 BMI and lost 70 pounds in the first 2 months and panicked as well. My doctor put my worries to rest and was really excited about the loss and I never worried about it again. Just keep getting those proteins in take the vitamins and you'll be fine. Congrats on your great results. - Mike

Everyone loses at different rates -some faster than others, and some much slower. No, I don't think you are losing too fast at all. It will eventually slow down as you eat more and you will. I have read of very few who lost too much and had problems keeping the weight on. Most of us get on here and grumble about how to lose the last 10-20 or so!

I had surgery 10-24 and started at 226 and now weigh 167 --I don't think your losing too quick--as long as your getting your protein and vitamins you are doing fine--

Laura, I lost 66 pounds in 10 weeks. By 5 months, I had lost 100 and now 13 months later I have lost 160+. It's been great - my health is wonderful and I feel years younger. I do have a lot of sagging skin but I would have that anyway. I was 55 when I had my surgery and had been over 300 pounds for at least 15 years - no way that was going to tighten up. I am waiting for insurance approval to have a tummy tuck now and I should lose another 20 with that. Don't worry about losing too fast. Your body will slow down when it needs to and then you'll be worried that you aren't losing fast enough.
