Question:
4 slices of pizza
Hello, I was really craving pizza today.. I ordered a med. pizza with mushrooms onoins and canadian bacon. I haven't had pizza in probably 8 months..I ate 4 slices of pizza .. I didn't eat the crust but i ate everything else. I had to force myself to stop eating.. I wasn't even full.. There are other days that i can't even eat 3 oz of chicken but i can eat half a pizza .. What's up with that? I am 18 months post op.. Down 95 pounds and still have another 60 to go.. Thanks Sharon S — Sharon S. (posted on December 29, 2002)

God, I love pizza!! I have not had surgery, and therefore do not know if
this will be helpful to you, but if I have a Healthy Choice french bread
pizza with some extra provolone on it, it really meets my pizza need at
around 400 calories. If you want to try for fewer calories, you might try
that next time. Good luck to you.

So let me get this..you ate the melted cheese, and tomatoe sauce, plus
maybe some chopped veggies and sliced pepperoni?? And you chewed all this
up..hmmm probably turned mostly liquid....Doesn't sound like the best
choice calorie wise or in the protein department..but it doesnt seem like
you ate TOO MUCH.

Were they small slices with the thin bread? I couldn't imagine the thick
crust and big slices...but small slices and thin bread, and 18 months
post-op, I can see it. Interesting how some days we can just eat all day
and never feel full and other days hardly a bite.

Sounds like a perfect HIGH PROTEIN choice to me, plus it's tastey. I don't
know why so many of you guys are under the impression that you need to be
eating the most bland, boring diet consisting of nothing but grilled
chicken! Get over it already

I totally disagree with Stacy O. Great choice - protein, veggies, and you
didn't eat the crust. I am 4 months out and can eat 2 thin crust with
mushrooms, so 4 pieces as far out as you are should be fine. And once in a
while - Fugetaboutit!

Kristy- mypost was written with sarcasm....I was telling her it was not the
best choice CALORIE wize (high fat cheese, pepporini grease), but overall,
not a bad choice and I did not think she ate too much which is what her
conern was!

At the risk of sounding argumentative, I must post that there is nothing
wrong with getting protein from cheese, I wanted to point that out. Some
people are so down on cheese, when actually it is great for protein and
calcium. Plus, canadian bacon is MUCH lower in fat than pepperoni, so all
in all it was an awesome choice in all respects calorie wise, protein wise,
etc. and I did not want the original poster to feel bad for eating
something that actually was an excellent choice. I did not get your
sarcasm Stacie. Sorry. It is hard to get that in an e-mail.

Actually my wife notced that there are times when I don't eat anything and
others when I can eat a lot more. Today I ate a personal pan pizza which
was 4 small slices but I know that there are times when I can only eat less
than 1 slice of regular pizza and I'm full for a few hours. It's strange.

Sharon, I have had many similar experiences where one day I can hardly eat,
and the next I can eat what I call 'a bunch'. Others in my life notice it,
and I have heard many post-ops wonder at this. I think if you look at your
overall picture (exercise, eating, fluids, etc) for a week or so you will
see that your weeks tend to be the same. I have heard that normal people
have this swing in appetite, so maybe we are more normal now than we think!
Good Luck to you.

It doesn't sound like much at all, I'm only 2 months post-op, and pizza
topping is one of my favorite meals. I can easy eat 1-3 slices, it depends
on how much topping is on them, prob less than 1oz of food per slice, you
should have kept eating till you were full!!
