Question:
How does protein help us to lose weight faster?
I always hear that increasing protein helps us to lose faster. And it worked for me, as soon as I started taking Real Meals with the 60 grams I never had another plateau and the weight started coming off faster again. I just don't understand why. — Marie I. (posted on December 2, 2002)

When you eat a very small amount or skip meals your body will start to feed
off the the muscle tissue. This slows your metabolic rate (what is
sometimes called your body going into starvation mode) If you get in the
right amount of protein and vitamins while you are loosing weight you will
maintain your lean body mass and only burn off the fat. This will increase
you basil metabolic rate instead of lowering it and prevent plateaus.

Protein is the main ingredient of building muscle and tissue. Muscle burns
fat a faster rate even when a person is idle. Carbs turn to sugar when
digested so in a sense you are ingesting sugar. That is why diabetics have
to watch out not only for sugar but for carbs to. Protien is really good
for strengthening all of the tissue in your body from muscles, skin,
everything. I hope this is enough I am sure there will be others who will
answer this as well.
One last note to those who are preop for the wls or even the tummy tucks
and other surgeries, taking protien drinks prior to surgery helps you to
heal faster.
