Question:
saggy belly after losing weight???
I'm considered a light weight at 263 (now), my surgeon doesn't think I'll have to have a tummy tuck, that because of my age(33) that I should snap right back into shape. I've never been small so how do I know if the apron will go away or not????? — Leigh G. (posted on November 9, 2002)

My family doctor says that the only way to get rid of an apron is with
surgery.

Hi. Well, when I was 32 I lost 100 lbs quickly (HMR fasting). I started at
260. I did no exersize. NO SAGGINESS at all!!!!
Now I'm 42 and post-op 10weeks. I started at 350 this time. I have lost
only 60 so far but already there is SAG, and I' excersizing 4 days a week
this time>
So, in other words, the odds are in your favor. With your young age and
"low" starting weight, you should do great!

I started out at 263 too. I am 5'4". I have also had 2 kids.(42 years
old) Never even got stretch marks when I was pregnant. Anyhoo.... I have
lost 102 pounds so far with about 18 to go to reach my goal. I have a saggy
belly but not enough to required or even WANT a tummy tuck. I solve the
problem by wearing tummy control underwear when I need them. Otherwise my
jeans hold it in just fine. You won't know if the "apron" will go
away until you start losing weight. Tummy exercises will help to some
degree but regardless, don't expect to have a FLAT stomach when all is said
and done. You will probably be fine though and not need a tummy tuck at
all.

Hi, I am 27 years old and One year and one month post op. I started out at
267 went up to 271 and today I weigh in on my scales without my clothes on
142, I am still considered over weight and I still want to lose 10-15 more
lbs. I do have a lot of skin. About 10-15 lbs the doctor said.. I go in
Tuesday the 12th of Nov for a consult with a plastic surgeon. I am hoping
that my insurance will cover it........ Lets keep our fingers crossed.
They had told me the same thing you were told. I was young I would bounce
back.. But I didn't. I can tell you honestly I never exercised... Not
like I should. I think that played a major part in it. So keep that in
mind...
Good luck and God Bless.

You can't tell ahead of time. I am like you, 33, started at 259. I'm 3
weeks post, and a slow loser -- but if I can avoid plastic surgery, I'm all
for losing slowly. Doc said I might be able to avoid plastic surgery...but
you never can tell. Good luck.

Your age and genes will certainly work either in or out of your favor. I am
43, have had 4 c-sections,started out 266 and and at 16 1/2 months post-op
am at 149. Baggy belly? You bet! Does it bug me? You bet? Zipper and tight
pants or support underwear help hold it in when dressed. I got denied on my
first TT and breast lift attempt at 12 months, but am going to try again
later or if we change insurance companies. My saggy neck bugs me too, but
others say they don't really notice it as I do. The old boobs sag, but bras
help that and this doesn't bug me as much. My somewhat small batwings amuse
my children, but even with lots of weights at the YMCA, they are not
firming up, but in most shirts you really can't tell anyway. I hope you pop
back into shape great!

Aprons don't go away unless you have plastic surgery. Exercise can help to
firm up certain areas but does not help with aprons/sagging skin. Whether
you develop one or not will depend on how quickly you lose weight, how much
weight, your genes, your age (younger is better) and whether you have had
kids (those with no kids have abetter chance of no sag). Your surgeon, if
he has seen lots of WLs-before and after, might be correct.

I was a lightweight too and age 38 on surgery day. I weighed 248. I now
weigh 125. Trust me, plastic surgery is the ONLY thing that will take care
of the excess skin on your stomach.
