Question:
After the healing process, are you able to go back lifting and playing with kids?
I'm afraid that I will be guarding my stomach and not want to rough house with my kids or pick them up. Has anyone had problems with this? Please let me know. Thanks. [email protected]. — Leigh G. (posted on October 20, 2002)

Get LAP so you dont get a hernia but once your healed at about a month or
so you will feel so much better it wouldnt be a problem and chasing them
will be great exercise as well. I honestly cant tell I had surgery, my lap
scars are now but tiny red discolorations and fading. I dont feel any
different but just dont eat as much. Feel AWESOME good, loosing 130 pounds
is great...

I was told not to lift more than 15# for the first 6 weeks after surgery (I
had open RNY 7/25/02). After that time I slowly increased the amount I
could lift and was playing and lifting my grandson around within 4 months
(of course he was a baby!) Within 6 months I was back lifting and carrying
50# bags of feed. I never had a hernia.

open-RNY - 3 months out. Been playing with my kids (physically) who are 8
and 9 since 7 or 8 weeks out. At 3 months out I have no fears of lifting
or playing and don't think about protecting my stomach :>)

I own a childcare home and I am 8 weeks out. I have been playing with them
and running around since about 6 weeks. You will not be able to do much
just after surgery because of lifting restrictions, but after 6 weeks, my
surgeon said I can pretty much resume normal activity as long as it is
confortable. So you should be OK. I have lost about 45 pounds so far and I
can already tell a difference in energy and that I can play better with the
kids!
