Question:
Upset stomack, could like be the problem
I take 3 iron tablets a day and twice I have been very sick with vomitting and dirrahea. My Gall Ballder has been checked and that isn't the problem, — VickieG (posted on October 13, 2002)

Hello,
I have never been able to take iron since a child. What you described it
what happens to me. I could not even take prenatel vitamins because of the
iron levels. What my doctor told me is that I needed to obtain iron the
natural way because my body could not tolerate the iron supplements!

Vickie,
I also had problems with iron right after my surgery. My doctor prescribed
me and iron pill that I tolorate much better than over the counter iron. I
don't know the actual name of the script, but the generic version is......
FE-Tinic 150 Forte capsule. You might want to check these out! Hope this
helps.

Iron also makes my stomach upset and my iron levels are very, very low.
Recently my surgeon recommended a great iron supplement called Slow Fe
which is a slow release iron that does not wreak havoc on the stomach. It
is white, not green, and it is time released.
I tolerate it very well, even on an empty stomach. I highly recommend it.
Also, iron is better absorbed if it is taken with vitaminc C.
Good luck to you.

There are several irons on the market. Some will not cause that miserable
feeling. I always hated iron for that. When I found I had to take
mega-doses, I was horrified. But there are a few that are gentle,
non-constipating. The Fe-Tinic 150 Forte mentioned is a presciprtion model
for Niferex Forte. There is also a generic (non-Forte) of that that is
non-Rx, if your insurance doesn't pay for iron. Mine doesn't. SAme iron,
but without the additives that you get in the Rx version.
