Question:
Does food ever taste good again?
I am 2 months post op, and everythiing I eat tastes blaa and tastless. The things that I use to really enjoy that I can still eat don't taste good any more. Will this always be this way? I'd like to enjoy eating something that is allowed, will this ever happen? I really don't mind giving up the things that are bad for me, but it would be nice to enjoy eating something since surgery. Has anyone else experienced this and did it ever change. I will live with the answer, I'd just like to know what to expect. — Linda C. (posted on October 13, 2002)

Sorry food will always taste YUK as a side affect of surgery! :) OH HOW I
WISH THIS WERE TRUE. JUST JOKING!!!<P> You likely in ketosis right
now and burning your fat for energy. Eventual;ly as you eat more and weigh
less this goes away and food tastes great again:( Believe me you will
prefer it like it is today...

Enjoy this stage while it lasts, where you could eat or not eat, no food
cravings etc. You will get your appetite back, and your taste for food
again. The good thing is that just a small amount will always fill you up!

Hi, I am 7 weeks post op and I can say that I am not finding food to be
anything special.. but maybe a big pain in the rear. I too have lost taste
for alot of things and I have a hard time adding much new things becuase I
usually end up throwing it back up...I think I found a trick and my body
says hey dummy I do not want that! It is a really hard thing to explain to
people who have not had the surgery. I can almost say it is easier to not
eat then eat.
However... everyone I talk to who is post-op 6-8 months or more says you
get back to being able to eat. I still dought it somedays... but there is
hope...
I to have found it much easier to eliminate BAD things.. but it would be
nice for a little more spice in my life concerning what I can eat! I can
also say I hate resturants next to nothing on the menu for me.... sometimes
I just get Ice Tea while my family chows down.

I expect it will be 2-4 months before foods taste good to you again. I know
you think it is bad... yet I wish I had that problem again! At 6 months out
things tasted good and the weight loss slows way down. <sigh> I
wonder if we could trade places right now? lol

I was 3 months post op yesterday. Really this past month, food has started
tasting better to me. Before that I would sit at the table and stare at my
food. I only ate because I had to (besides that my mom would yell at me!)
Now things are starting to taste good. One of the first things that tasted
really good to me was Mexican food. I would eat fajita meat with tomatoes,
cheese, and fat free sour cream. I think I ate that for like a week
straight before I got sick of it! Also, things with sauces make them more
tasty and easier to eat. Don't worry, stuff will taste good again. But
then you will wish it didn't! =)

YES! YES! YES! At 6 weeks, I was still eating because I had to and
wondering if I would EVER enjoy eating again. I'm about 4 and half months
out now and can again enjoy food. There are days or meals where I eat
because I should...especially breakfast, but I'm enjoy a hamburger with
everything on it right now (had a cravin')!

I experienced the very same problems as you and even posted questions as to
WHEN will I LIKE food again??? It was terrible for me. NOTHING tasted good,
and when I DID finally find something, I ate it for months. I LIVED on
Wendy's chili for a couple of months. Ate it for EVERY meal! For me, food
didn't start tasteing good until I was almost 7 months post op!! Now, I can
eat and enjoy just about everything, in moderation. Looking back, I'm glad
I didn't like anything cause it helped me lose a lot of my weight. Be
patient. I know it's easier said than done but your tastes WILL come
back......maybe not as soon as you would like, but it will. Hang in
there........
