Question:
I am a week and a half post op, am I eating too much?
I am still on a liquid diet but I can drink about 1/2 cup -1 cup of liquids. The first few days I could only take a spoonful in. If my pouch can only hold 2 ounces, why can I take in so much? I am worried — Rachel F. (posted on October 4, 2002)

According to my surgeon, you can drink all you want of water, broth, etc.
You will feel more comfortable with your pouch as time goes on...

The reason you can drink more now than at first is because some of the
swelling is receding. I panicked when I could eat a whole container of
yogurt! But when you get on solids you'll see that, yes, the dr really DID
do the surgery and you really DO have a new li'l tummy! LOL

My surgeon has you eating solid foods while still in the hospital. I
didn't eat much, because everything smelled so bad while I was in there.
After I got home I was suprised at how much I could eat, and then about the
4th week, I started getting very uncomfortable and had a problem puking.
At my 1 month follow up, I asked the surgeon about this and he said that
the first 1-2 months, you pouch is pretty elastic. After that it firms up.
He said a problem is that some people will stretch their pouch in that
first month, and won't have the weightloss that they should have.
Since then, I can't eat more than a few bite of anything without getting
that uncomfortable feeling. I always know when I've gone a "Bite too
Far".
Remember when drinking fluids to "SIP" don't guzzle. And when
eating, you might try using Baby Utensils. It will help you take the small
bites you need to.
Good luck, our journey is just begun

Thank you Rachel for posting your question! I am two weeks post-op today
and have been terrified that I had stretched my pouch beyond belief or
something. I was so re-assured when I read the answers to your question!
