Question:
Why would I not be losing pounds?

The morning of my surgery I weighed 333 pounds. I am about two months post-op and have only lost around 27 pounds. However, I have lost plenty of inches. For example, I have gone from a (selective) size 28 dress size to a size 20 dress. I've gone from a size 26/28 top to a 16/18 and a pants size 28 or 30 to a size 24. No one can believe that I've only lost 27 pounds. What gives? I am (mostly) meeting the protein guidelines set forth by my surgeon/dietician, drinking my fluids, and exercise as my schedule permits. Anyone else had this experience and know how to deal with it? Anyone have suggestions for getting the pounds to go? Any info would help. Thanks!!    — Tiffany D. (posted on September 21, 2002)

That does seem strange Tiffany! Are you exercising a lot? Some of it could be due to gaining muscle mass, which weighs more than fat. Muscle however looks a lot better and lets you fit into smaller clothes. If you are shrinking, I suppose that is all that really matters! The number on the scales is just that...only a number. Have you taken your measurments regularly? I wouldn't worry too much. THe pounds have no choice but to fall off eventually. **Good Luck** (open RNY 7/23/02 -55lbs)

I belive you I had the same problem ok am not a post-op yet but i have been trying to lose my 10% befor surgery and I found I lost more than I thought I did. Let me explain ( I did a experiment I bought 3 different types of scales digital one, basic floor one, plus size scale. All 3 would weigh me differently so I desided to join weight watchers and use there scale and found that I droped more weight then i thought I did . Here are some basic weighing in rules weigh yourself first thing in the morning before breakfast that is your weight for the day. never weigh your self at night because of the water gain over several hours. if you have to weigh in at the doctors eat light befor and go for a brisk walk to help digust it better.
