Question:
WEIGHT LOSS ON TRACK?

I know it can be dangerous to compare yourself to others, but I am just curious to how I am doing. I am 5'5 and on the day of surgery which was 7/23/02, I weighed 295lbs. (top weight was 301 pounds three weeks before that) Anyway, I weighed in this morning at 244lbs. For anyone who was around this starting weight, is this about average? below average? above average? I know everyone loses differently, I am just trying to get some kind of baseline. If I am a little behind, I will up my water and exercise etc. I know this might sound really dumb, but I have a fear of going in to see my surgeon and getting weighed, because I feel like I should have lost more by now and feel a little embarrassed. Thanks for any comments. :)    — Shawnie S. (posted on September 15, 2002)

I think it sounds like you are doing great! My surgery was on 8/5/02, 5'6" starting weight 297. As of last Tuesday (that was the last time I weighed) I was only at 266. Everyone gets paranoid and thinks they aren't losing enough when they have lost a tremendous amount in such a small time! Think about where you might be if you hadn't had the surgery! Keep up the great work!!!!

Shawnie, I think your surgeon will be very pleased with your weight loss. You have lost 51 pounds in under 2 months-awesome. I'll let others who started at your weight and height answer as I started at 5'3" and 249, but my personal opinion is that your doing fantastic-definitely no need to feel embarrassed. Congrats.

I had surgery July 10th, 2002, and I have lost 58 pounds as of this morning, so it sounds right on track to me, since you had surgery a week or two after me.

My surgery was 6-6-02. Day of surgery weight was 305. As of 9-15-02 I weight 243. I have lost 62 pounds. I would say you are doing great. Don't compare to others and keep up the good work and u will lose all u need to lose. Don't forget along the way you will plateau so lose weight while u can and enjoy it cause there will be some weeks where u scale is at a standstill. Don't worry though it may seem like forever, but this time hon as long as u use your tool wisely it ain't coming back.Take care
