Question:
Last two weeks have metalic taste in mouth..
I am 6 months post-op and am wondering if anyone else has experienced a metalic taste. It is not ketosis or candida. When I eat nothing taste good. Everything taste like metal. I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this. If you have is there something in our system that can cause this kind of reaction. Thanks for your help! — Tracey W. (posted on September 2, 2002)

Hmmmm. The only time I've heard of something like this was a couple years
ago when my Mom (who has NEVER had WLS) had to take a certain ACE Inhibitor
(heart med) for congestive heart failure. She lost alot of weight because
her siliva made everything taste like medal. She finally had to get on
something else. By any chance are you taking any kind of new medicine for
any purpose (heart related or not)?

Hi Tracey, I get this same problem when I take Tums, during my last
pregnancy I took so many tums that was the taste that I had in my mouth for
months! I'm not sure if it is an overload on a certain ingredient in them
or the calcium. Hope this helps!

Any nausea or unexplained vomiting? How does water taste? The metallic
taste is not your mind coming apart. It can be very real, but you'd need
to have a scope (EGD), not UGI or any kind of swallow, but a scope. The
problem is easy to fix, once diagnosed, but harder to fix if left untreated
for too long.

Hi,
I don't know if you are taking a chewable vitamin, but if you are and it
has iron in it, that can cause you to have that metal taste in your mouth.
It might even happen with a vit. that you swallow, but I do know I had that
with a chewable. Good luck!

Hi there...I too have been having the metallic taste...it's not constant,
just pops up every so often. The nurse at my surgeons office told me to
chew on a piece of Clorets gum...just be careful since it's a very small
piece of gum and easily swallowed. But it seems to help me quite a bit...
Good Luck
