Question:

I had my group informational meeting with my surgeon last night and a think I found the surgery I would like and would be best for me. My surgeon discribed a "middle" RNY surgery where the common limb is shorter than the "Proximal" but longer than the "Distal". This would make it so there was more malabsorption than the proximal but less than the distal. I look at this as being the best of both worlds. I have never heard of it before and do not know if only a few surgeons offer this as an option. Has anyone had this surgery? How are you doing? Any problems? Thank you so much for your help. — Lynn L. (posted on August 21, 2002)

I've never heard of that....... but have often wondered why something like
hasn't been offered before. I was origionally thinking about a DS, but
then decided there was way to much intestine bypassed to suit me. This
sounds like a great middle ground. If you find any more info on it, I'd be
interested in hearing about it. :)

HI Lynn, I am having a MEdial RnY with DR.E in 5 days.....WooHooo. I
originally went in to my consult determined to go with the distal, but
after speaking to him decided that the medial(middle) RnY was better,
because you are able to lose more, but without the mineral
deficiancies(sp?) associated with the distal. Dr. E's office has been
great, please feel free to e-mail me with any question you have, I would be
happy to let you know how I am doing afterwards and my progress so that it
may help you along. [email protected]

Hey Lynn BTW I also noticed that your consult is Sept. 11th, that is the
same day as my follow up appt. I think mine is at 3:30 so maybe I will see
you there.

I have a medial bypass.... Two years out today; BMI of 23and holding one
year and counting. My doc described it the best of both worlds also.
